There’s a new cake in town!

Whidbey Island Wedding Cake mini cakes

Tasty and cute mini-cakes from Flying Flower Specialty Sweets, Whidbey Island's newest baker

There’s a New Cake Baker on Whidbey Island!

Meet Jen, of Flying Flowers Specialty Sweets.  She is Whidbey Island’s newest – really, most recent – baker and creator of wedding cake and specialty sweets.  I’ve had the luck of sampling her goods on a number of occasions now.  Every time I do, I am impressed by the quality as well as the beauty of whatever it is she is offering.  Add to that her lovely personality, bright smile, and a sourcing ethos that is smack in line with mine – well, I just had to make sure you know about her!  I would order a wedding cake from her in a heartbeat.

Listen to these flavors:  Honeyed Lemon Blackberry… Earl Grey Loganberry…  Rye Whiskey & Fig Vanilla Cake…   oh, yum!  Visit her website for a full menu and to see better pictures of her work.  This is just a mediocre snapshot I took of the delightful goodies she made for my recent Flower Jewelry Class at Flying Bear Store in Langley.  They were lemon poppyseed with buttercream piping and some tasty fruit preserves.  So delicious and light – just right!

Jen Katzinger is a wedding cake baker and owner of Flying Flowers Specialty Sweets on Whidbey Island

If you are planning a Whidbey Island wedding or event, and are shopping for a cake, call Jen.  She has wide-ranging skills as a baker, including a specialty in gluten-free cakes and desserts.  Not only do they fit the dietary requirements, they taste delicious and feel right in the mouth.  I’ve had a lot of weird, grainy gluten-free desserts and baked goods – but not hers!  Every bite has been a pleasure!  I’m sure there is a cake flavor or dessert option – be it gluten free or not – to tempt you.  Trust me, your guests will be happy!
